So I don't have any background. I was the engineer/scientist of the family, and I learned early on to eschew the artsy fartsy stuff, leaving that to others in my family. Working on these pieces, one of the things I quickly noticed was that sometimes the pieces want to make themselves, but sometimes I get to a point where I have to make a choice about how a piece unfolds. After the first piece, I was left unsatisfied because I couldn't decide between two different visions of what this woman might be about. Rather than leave one uncreated, I decided to just make them both. This version also let me test out whether it makes sense to try to cut around printed elements like those swirly swirls, and to see how the new ultra black paper I found would compare against the cheap-o origami paper. I quite like the moooovement in this piece, as I've heard them say in the art world.
