"Mupali in the sun"

This is Mupali, my "father from another mother" so to speak. And specifically, this is my artistic reproduction of a picture of him in the sun that my folks took when we lived with him long ago in Papua New Guinea. As a birthday gift to my dear old dad, I wanted to see if I could recreate a likeness of him using cut paper. The mix of tissue papers, commercial scrapbook papers, and handmade papers was great fun to work with, especially the task of hunting through stacks and stacks of papers to find those that had patterns that mimicked the shading on the original photo. If you squint from a ways away, it's a pretty good representation of the original photo. What I learned from this piece, is that those pesky scrapbook/printed papers leave very LOUD white edges on everything. No likey.
